The Echomap UHD 93SV is one of the newest Garmin fish finders. It’s an upgrade of the Plus 93sv model, which has recently been discontinued. It comes with its latest Ultra High Definition sonar technology for ClearVu and SideVu imaging. In addition to that, it offers loads of other new features, which can help you spend less time looking for fish and more time catching it. You can learn more about all of these features in the Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv review below.
Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv Features
Display
The Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv fish finder comes with a large display unit that measures 9 inches in diagonal. It’s a WVGA display with a resolution of 400 x 800 pixels. It offers high image quality, which makes it easier to see all the small details displayed on the screen.
This display features LED backlighting. It makes it easier to read the screen in direct sunlight and at night. You can also adjust the level of light to get better readability depending on the light conditions of the day.
The controls of this fish finder include a combination of touchscreen technology and a keypad. This unit also has a highly intuitive interface and an easy to navigate menu. Adjusting the settings is pretty straight forward and it offers you the option of creating a custom screen by adding your most used applications to the homepage.
You can also set up custom combinations, which allows you to view different types of data at the same type. This means that you can view different types of sonar side by side, add navigation, and then one more application of your choice.
The display also comes with good networking capabilities. It supports NMEA 2000 and it’s also equipped with input and output ports for NMEA 0183. This allows connecting the fish finder to your existing boat grid so that the devices on your boat could communicate with each other. With this feature, you could have all the important information about your boat display on one screen. For example, it could help get data from a GPS antenna, engine, fuel level, heading sensors, and other devices.
Moreover, this Garmin fish finder offers wireless connectivity. The unit features built-in Wi-Fi, using which you can pair the device with your smartphone in order to use a few additional features available in the ActiveCaptain app. This is a free app from Garmin that offers you updates for your software and existing charts. It also allows you to purchase new maps, to access the boating community, and to plan your fishing trips.

Sonar Capability
This fish finder comes with the GT56UHD-TM transducer, which offers three types of sonar. It includes traditional CHIRP, ClearVu, and SideVu sonar. This offers all-in-one sonar versatility.
The transducer supports multiple frequencies, so you can scan the water at different depths. For example, it’s dual frequency and dual beam capable, so it supports 50/200 kHz and 77/200k Hz frequencies. However, for operation in these frequencies, you’ll need to purchase a separate transducer.
Moreover, its CHIRP sonar has a range of 150 to 240 kHz and the ClearVu and SideVu sonar operate at 455 kHz, 800 kHz, and 1000 kHz. The inclusion of 1000 kHz frequency makes it possible to get images of the water at greater depths, so you can see fish further than with most other high frequency transducers.
For the traditional CHIRP sonar, the transducer uses a high wide beam with a coverage of 24-16 degrees. It provides incredibly clear images, which makes it easy to separate targets.
As for the ClearVu and SideVu, they allow you to look downward and to the sides of your boat. This sonar provides remarkably clear images, so you can easily identify structure and fish.
With the ClearVu and SideVu sonar and its UHD (Ultra High Definition Capability), you can see below and around your boat in amazing detail. The unit also offers different color palettes with each one offering high contrast vivid colors. This makes it easier to distinguish different objects in the water.
The maximum depth capability of this transducer depends on the type of sonar you’re using. The CHIRP sonar has a maximum depth of 800 feet in freshwater. As for the ClearVu and SideVu sonar, it’s 400 and 500 feet.
For an even more advanced sonar capability, you can add the Panoptix LiveScope system to this fish finder. With this sonar system, you’ll be able to see below and around your boat in real time.
The included transducer offers the versatility of two types of setup. It gives you the option to either transom or trolling motor mount it. And the hardware is included in the package.
Built-in GPS
The Garmin Echomap UHD 93SV is preloaded with LakeVu G3 maps, which include freshwater maps of 18,000 U.S. lakes and 5,700 Canadian lakes. These maps have up to 1 foot contours and they feature integrated Navionics data, which makes them more detailed. Moreover, in addition to auto guidance, the charts also offer depth range and shallow water shading.
LakeVu includes only freshwater maps. If you would like to also have coastal coverage, you will need to separately purchase BlueChart G3, BlueChart G3 Vision, or any other preferred charts. Or if you only need coastal charts, consider buying the Garmin Echomap UHD 94SV instead.
You can upgrade the maps using the microSD card slot that is included in the display unit. Alternatively, you can purchase and download upgrades using the ActiveCaptain app.
In addition to using the existing maps, you can also create your own. Using the Quickdraw Contours system, you can create personalized fishing maps with 1 foot contours.
A few other benefits of this GPS system are that it supports AIS, DSC, and GCV Black Box sonar.
